Roland E. LaPorte, 83, of Ellington Connecticut passed away on January 3, 2018 in Manchester Memorial after a long illness. He was born May 26, 1934, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the son of late Edward and Lucia (Beauchemin) LaPorte of Chicopee, Massachusetts. He graduated from Holyoke Vocational High from the Printing Dept., enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a GMM3 from 1952-1956 and was a veteran of the Korea War. Roland E. LaPorte, 83, of Ellington Connecticut passed away on January 3, 2018 in Manchester Memorial after a long illness. He was born May 26, 1934, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the son of late Edward and Lucia (Beauchemin) LaPorte of Chicopee, Massachusetts. He graduated from Holyoke Vocational High from the Printing Dept., enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a GMM3 from 1952-1956 and was a veteran of the Korea War. He worked at several printing companies as a Lithographer and retired from Allied Printing in 1997. In the 60's he was on the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, he also belonged to a bowling and golf league and drove school bus for Ellington for 6 years. Roland was preceded in death by his wife; Annmarie (Mosher) LaPorte and two brothers; Donald LaPorte and William LaPorte. He is survived by his Sons; David LaPorte and his wife Cindy of Ashford, Jeffrey and (Susan) LaPorte of Enfield and Daughter; Lori and (William) Brunette of East Hartford Grandchildren; Nicole LaPorte (Elliot Vallez), Adam LaPorte, Monica and (Jeff) Steben, Angela Brunette (Peter Cecchini), Great Grandchild; Steven Cecchini, Sister-In-Law; Jeanine LaPorte. His funeral will be held on Tuesday January 9, 2018, 8:15 AM from the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home 318 Burnside Ave. East Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Christopher Campus 538 Brewer St East Hartford. Burial with full Military Honors will be in Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery Agawam, MA. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Stay at Home Care Manchester, CT, Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Alzheimer's Awareness.
