James "Jim" Koop, 62, longtime resident of East Hartford, died suddenly on Sunday August 27. Husband, beloved brother and uncle, he leaves behind his wife Debora (Pitz), his sister and brother-in-law Mary and Ken Kennedy of Portsmouth NH, sister Nancy Koop of Columbia CT, niece Natalie Kennedy and her husband Calder Hulse of Amherst NY, and a host of friends and relatives. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents Robert and Jeanne Koop, who also resided in East Hartford for many years. Jim built a successful sales career in the beverage industry in CT and RI, working at Capital Distributors, Johnny Barton, Hartford Distributors, Putnam Plaza Liquors, and for the last 12 years, for Monsieur Touton, where he managed to sell over 100,000 cases of wine. Jim was a sociable man who valued his job and the opportunities it afforded to him to serve his customers and make new friends. Those who knew Jim well appreciated his kindness and sincere interest in their lives. "Uncle Jimmy" took a special interest in Natalie's life and he loved her unconditionally. We are so very grateful he was with us to celebrate Natalie's marriage last month, but sad that he left us so soon. He was a generous man with a big heart and will be missed greatly, not only by family, but by the many friends he made over his lifetime. Special thanks to Jim's best friend Mike and wife Patty Barton for their love and support over the years, but most especially following his accident last year, and to Mike Andreo, with whom Jim enjoyed many a dinner and bottle of wine. Donations in Jim's memory can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, www.nationalms society.org Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 9-11am, with a Celebration of Jim's life at 11am, all to be held at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford CT 06108.
