Charles Francis Holland, 89, of Bolton, CT, passed away in Putnam on June 18, 2017, after an extended illness.

Charles was born in Hopedale, MA, on March 15, 1928 to Charles and Alma Holland. He graduated from East Hartford High School in 1946 and continued on to Trinity College after serving in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Charles served over 50 years in local law enforcement, and also in Florida after retirement.

Charles Francis Holland, 89, of Bolton, CT, passed away in Putnam on June 18, 2017, after an extended illness.

Charles was born in Hopedale, MA, on March 15, 1928 to Charles and Alma Holland. He graduated from East Hartford High School in 1946 and continued on to Trinity College after serving in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Charles served over 50 years in local law enforcement, and also in Florida after retirement.

Charles was married to Carmella M. Toce on Sept. 19, 1953; they were married almost 65 years. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Charles is survived by his spouse, Carmella M. Holland; daughter, Maureen F. Holland-Herrera; his son-in-law, Rafael Herrera Real; his grandchildren, Mia Earthsong Herrera and Aiden Carlo Herrera; his sisters, Barbara Horan, Irene Kelleher, and Janice Fournier and her husband Emil ("Junie"); many nieces, nephews, and family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00pm on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108. Funeral services will begin at 9am on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford.
